Dans les années 70, Venice Beach a vu naître les grands prodiges du skateboard. On a tous entendu parler du film Les Seigneurs de
Dogtown; et bien dogtown signifie en fait tous ceux qui à cette époque vivaient dans les quartiers insalubres de Venice, en bord de mer.
Ce coin dégenté de la côte Ouest Californienne attire certes beaucoup de touristes, mais reste avant tout un
endroit mythique, un endroit complètement historique. Stecy Peralta, aujourd'hui grand nom et idéologie du skateboard en soi(Powell
Brand Skateboard ) a grandi dans ces quartiers.
Mais pourquoi raconter tout ca ?
Non, en fait, c'est très simple : aujourd'hui, 2009, à Huntington-Beach, Quiksilver rend hommage à cette façon de skater comme à la vieille école dit Old school, qui reste par dessus tout un
style de l'époque bien commun.
Une representation à l'extérieur des locaux s'impose. Distribuer des tracts dans l'ensemble du complex, à l'éphigie du skate dit ancien, organisation et mise en place de tout un
environnement de la culture Old School du skateboard.
En d'autre termes, tout un complex aménagé de modules, d'une ambiance sur le
véritable skateboarding old school. Et c'est ici que ma mission intervient : placer un dispositif de publicités Quiksilver et DC Shoes (stickers, baches, autocollants...) sur tout éléments
visibles. Aide à la mise en place de tout un système audio, et à la recherche de bandes sons. Aide à la mise en place de quelques chapiteaux, toujours en gardant l'objectif d'une bonne
représentation de la marque. Et prévoir tout les autres éléments indispensable une fois le show commencé: échantillons, t-shirts, autocollants, ect...).
Et tout est au rendez-vous: Old School attitude, "à l'ancienne" comme on dit, au niveau de
la tenue vestimentaire des riders, au niveau des styles de planches (vieille version, comme on les fesait à l'époque), mais par dessus tout, l'esprit Old School règne en temps que maître lors de cet évènement.

La présence de quelques skateurs, au nom de Quiksilver ont donc fait leur
apparition, afin de "pimenter" un peu le show (comme si ce n'était pas assez....Ahhh les USA !). Enfin, ce fût une très grande réussite, avec beacoup de plaisir, et on en prend surout plein la
vue. Comment ne pourrais-je pas aimer un travail comme ça ? "J'ai pas besoin de costard cravatte", et je me lève tout les matins sans me préocuppé que j'ai du travail. Seulement quelques mois, et
j'ai déjà d'avantage de responsabilités, ce qui m'a permis de découvrir à mon avis une partie assez sympathique dans ce travail. Au Etats-Unis, les changements de poste sont très fréquents, si

Vous vous demander comment puis-je me déplacer ou circuler dans cette immense mégalopole qu'est Los Angeles. Et bien c'est très simple, je prends le bus !
Et
oui, étant donné que je n'est pas encore 21 ans (qui est la majorité au Etats-Unis), je ne suis pas assuré si jamais je conduis une voiture, et ce n'est pas faute d'avoir essayé. J'ai même mon
permis de conduire international, alors si vous dire !Je prends donc le bus pour aller travailler, sortir, faire les courses...heureusement les lignes sont très bien déservies sur l'ensemble du conté d'Orange (banlieue de L.A), et les bus passent assez régulièrement (tout dépend de la ligne que vous emprunter évédemment).
Il faut aussi savoir que toutes les rues, les avenues de
cette mégalopole ont étés conçues en quadrillage. Inutile donc de chercher partout un panneau indiquant la prochaine ville, ou tout simplement l'endroit où vous souhaitez vous rendre, vous n'en
trouverez pas. Ils sont quasi inexistants. Les seuls panneaux que vous pourrez trouver sont ceux indiquant l'entrée ou sortie d'autoroute. Naturellement, sur la freeway, des panneaux vous
indiqueront quelle sortie prendre, mais une fois celle-ci prise, place à votre sens de l'orientation. En fait, il faut bien comprendre que tout marche en fonction du Sud (plage), du Nord (chaines
montagneuses), de l'Est et de l'Ouest.Alors autant vous dire comment j'ai pu galérer, si je puis me permettre, les premiers temps. Mais je m'y suis fait assez vite, si on peu dire ça comme ça.
Il faut donc se repérer par à ça, mais aussi avec les numéros des rues et des avenues. Une fois le principe compris et en tête, vous pourrez vous débrouiller comme un chef.

Comme tout le monde le sait, Los Angeles possède ses quartiers huppés tel que
Beverly Hills, mais aussi ces rues comme Sunset Bvd., Rodeo Bvd. qui est l'une des rues les plus
chères du monde (Pretty Woman a été tourné dans ce boulevard), et le fameux Hollywood Bvd. où jonchent sur son sol marbré les quelques 2000 étoiles à l'effigie de ces stars Hollywoodiennes ou
Internationnales.Ce dernier weekend, petit tour donc dans Los Angeles Downtown, histoire de changer un peu de la plage. Il faut savoir que cette ville ne dort jamais, on trouve n'importe quoi à n'importe quelle heure; les mini-markets, ou stores sont quasiment tous des 24
hours (autrement dit ouvert 24/24 h, et 7/7j). On y mange quand on veut, on peut boire un
verre a n'importe quelle heure de la journée, à 3.00pm comme à 2.00am !Los Angeles est une ville recouvrant un immense mélange raciale, on y trouve des individus provenant de toutes les origines (White évidemment, Black, Chinois, Viêt., Mexicain, Francais, Russe....). Il s'agit d'un des plus grand Meltin-pot au monde, avec plus de 200 langues et dialectes à l'intérieur même de la ville (enfin si on peut parler d'une ville....il s'agirait plus d'une mégalopole !)
Petite balade obligée sur Sunset Bdv. et Hollywood Bvd. avec la fraîche intension de croiser une
célébrité ! Malheuresement j'étais arrivé trop tard. Peu importe, les rues au alentour d'Hollywood
sont si magnifiques, si grandes, si larges, et si célèbre que l'on croirait les avoir vues depuis toujours. On peu tomber nez à nez avec un bâtiment, une rue, un panneau...qui nous rappellent un
extrait de film ou de série !

Comme Hollywood a le droit a ses avenues dédiées au stars, il me semblait alors évident que L'ECE ait sa place sur Hollywwod Bvd. ! Voilà pourquoi, il m'était
indispensable de partir en Californie sans mon petit autocollant ECE. Alors une fois sur Hollywood Bvd., il me fallait trouver un moyen de le mettre en
évidence, jusqu'à ce que le "Joker " dans le dernier Batman attira mon attention.
C'est donc sa carte qui y est passée ! Heureusement et je vous rassure, il ne m'a fait aucun mal, ce sont juste des sosies qui se baladent sur le boulevard, afin de nous rappeler qu'on est a Hollywood bien sur, mais aussi pour accentuer le fait que le cinéma est là-bas présent partout.
Devant le "Grauman's Chinese Theatre", cinema sur Hollywood bvd. où toutes les avant-premières sont diffusées, on y trouve les empreintes de mains et de pieds de personnes célébres, la plupart datées et signées : ici Will Smith, un peu plus loin Matt Damon ou encore Samuel L. Jackson...et j'en passe ! Peut être qu'avec le temps Mr. Combalbert aura lui aussi droit à ses empreintes sur le sol Hollywoodien, pour la meilleure école de commerce jamais connue !

As everyone of you have asking for more details of my work, well I gonna give you some, supported with pictures.
As I had told you last time, my missions inside Quiksilver are as simple as receiving the new rangebooks of such and such seasons, products like wetsuits, eyewears, sandals, watches, shirts, pants..., rangebooks of Quiksilver Mens, Boys, Womens, Kids, Babies, rangebooks of Roxy Accessories, Teenie... As many possibilities as kind of book, you know what I mean.
So I am charged to check how many we have received, how many I have to send to an
other headquarter in the world (Argentina, Brazil, Europa, Indonesia, Australia, Japan...), and how many they want... Then I have to do invoices by Excel, in writting the all description there is
in the box, and next I have to send it by postal organization like DHL or Fed-Ex. So I have to fill the little paper with the receiver's adress, names,...and introduce invoices inside the plastic
clutch bag of the box.
Then, I also have to check in couple of abraod country surfbooks products, advertisings, events...who are representing, announcing or talking about
Quiksilver or Roxy. Afterwards I have to list it also on Excel, with dates, types...in order to know who we have to pay for such and such advertising. That's very interesting to learn how a such
mission works, I understand right now how the communication field by books is. I can understand how is the layout, colors, sizes, products, of a Quiksilver advertising.

In my opinion, this is a very good opportunity to do my internship there, because I 've always been in this field, I mean I grew up near the ocean all my life, so all that is slidding's sport, we can say that I am. For one time, I have the chance to see on the one hand, and especially to learn and understand how a firm like Quiksilver works in the other hand.
I have the chance to see and learn how everything here run...from the conception to the market, trough designs and advertisements layout. I have also the chance to be in touch with people who are in charged of management, merchandising, international relationships, and especially of global products marketing.

Well, I think I've introduced all that concerned about me and my work here. It is important to know that everybody I'm working with is nice. They are always there when I have couple of questions or problems. My internship's supervisor is really kind with me, he knows what to do, he always learns and shows me what and how to do.
My co-worker comes from the same place in France as me (Anglet-Biarritz). She naturally speaks french, but we try not to... :)
In other words, working conditions are really great, there is a very good atmosphere. Here is the spot with some bench where we go for taking a break or smoking cigarattes, and lets us talking, you know what I mean... (specially Peter
).To sum up, here is a wonderful internship that I am doing. It brings me enrichment, entertainment, and especially a big step towards professionalism.

It sounds great and pretty like this LoS AnGeleS...but this is completly different as we can know.
Obviously, there is Hollywood and its Stars neighbors, Pixar, and Paramount Production, its beautiful and rich neighborhoods : Beverly Hills, Venice Beach...We can find plenty of beautiful things, and we can feel more or less happiness, but also like star's behaviour in people's skin. You have the feeling they are all acting, as if someone will hire them in a new movie :)
But I really would like explain myself about a special thing, completly
different, this is the other side of L.A, the dark side, that can be possible to find here:In fact it's necessary to learn and understand in Los Angeles, precisely in Down town L.A, there is for a long time land gangs war. Indeed, in United States, guns are allowed as we know, but gangs war is really unbelievable.
Let's me explain you : We can find the Crips Gang and the Bloods Gang...who are fighting one against another, and who are the most famous. We don't know exactly the reason, but all we know that's because they just want control couple of block of streets who are defined by specific street, and want impose their authority to other gang.

In order to differentiate from each other, they used to wearing specific color
clothes: blue for the Crips, and red for the Bloods. They hanging around the all day to check if everything is gonna good. If they see a man from another gang, no pity, they will beat him or
in almost cases kill him. They also doing lots of signs gang, with their hand, in order to mean and show at which gang they belong. That's the code of the street.Fortunatly, all happens in the South of Los Angeles called South Central L.A. But since 2003, the city of L.A changed the area's official name from South Central L.A to South Los Angeles, hoping to blur collective memories violence and blight. The name "South Central" had become almost synonymous with urban decay and street crime.
It's hard to believe it, but this is real...
Moreover, It's possible to find out other gangs in the L.A streets. We can also find the Latin Kings, and lots of other, but there is a new one who is conquering the all South America, and who is more numerous, better organized, and maybe the most dangerous...the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13). To recognize them, it's easy, members are tatoo on all their body with their own gang signs.
So this is what it really happens in Los Angeles, but especially in the South. It's important to understand that'not a game, you don't have to joke with it, because they don't take it as a game, they really do and act like this...There is no special reason, but this is just because some of them were raised in a block, and others in a different block (Crips/ Bloods/ Latin King)...because they can come from an other country (Mexico - MS 13).

This is mainly because they don't have other issue in the social life, they don't have work, and most of them can't work, they are living with their own rules, rules of gang. They are more than present in the drug market, in any act of extorsion, they act like a true Mafia, this is Mafia in fact.
L.A.P.D
Fortunatly the L.A.P.D (Los Angeles Police Departement) has declared two years ago
that they will, with the F.B.I, "enter in war" against gangs. They had declared that enough is enough, and prepared strategic coordinated plan to dismantle and end with this. They currently
continue their operation in this way.Anyway, in my case I am totally in safe, because I am living in Huntington who is the safer city in Orange County. What's more I am at 35 minutes from Los Angeles, and where I am, there is no gang and no violence. For sure there is but I'm far enough away not to be confronted.
In any case, I've written this item not to scare you about me, or what might be happen to me, but simply being realistic to things happens everyday in the world, and I guess it is an opportunity to me for seeing and avove all learning and understanding what the United States are, in this case California to be more accurate.

Hey yeah, that's right, I'm doing actually my Internship by Quiksilver World Headquarters.
Before begin explaning you how is here, I would like to introduce you with some words about Quiksilver's mind : Quiksilver desings, produces and distributes clothing, accessories and related products for young-minded people, and develops brands that represent a casual lifestyle driven from a boardriding heritage. Quiksilver's authenticity is evident in its innovative products, events and retail environments across the globe. There is also the Quiksilver-Foundation who is a non-profit organization committed to supporting and enhancing the quality of the communities of boardriders across the world in the support of environmental, educational, cultural, and scientific projects.
So now, I gonna introduced you what's happen here:In fact this is here, in Huntington-Beach, where all brand of Quiksilver (Roxy, DC Shoes, Hawk, but no more Rossignol) are broadcasted in the all world. This is here where all actions, new seasons designs are created. All that we can have in a surf shop, Quiksilver shop, and all other sliding stores, this is here where all is done; I mean naturally for Quiksilver brand...
That's why in my work I can meet up, and pass some knowing great surfers, and skaters like Kelly Slater (who represent Quiksilver brand), Homar Hassan, and Mark Appleyard (world champions skaters).

Of course, Quiksilver headquaters is like all other business firm you know, but it is really necessary to understand that here is not really like others : indeed here, and as we are in California, you can arrived to work in shorts, T-shirts, ..., so with Quiksilver clothes. Moreover there is one thing that's forbidden to forget here : your Surfboard ! Yes, that is the truth ! No, I say this for one reason, because you can left your work anytime due to the weather and the waves !
Often my internship's supervisor tell me to go with him surfing, or watching challenge on the pier organized by them. We can say that's a very good job I've found, isn't it ?
So a part of the company go surfing some special days, but even if that's a special day, you know what I mean...
Otherwise, at this time I'm responsible to check and send all the new season rangebooks across the world. It is very interesting to see how it works. I've also working on DC Shoes logo, in order to improve my knowledge in this area, because this is a field where I really would like to go in my future...so I pull ahead of. I also actively partcipate in meetings and discussions in regards to production, sourcing, and inventory control. Afterwards I will be exposed to the unique process by which products are introduced to market.

That's all I've seen for the moment, but it still already taking me some time. I will of course see otherthing, but as Travis Rice said : "That's it, That's all" (a new snowboarding movie realized with him by Quiksilver).

Indeed American food is really special...This is not the same that we have used to having. In fact, and that's true, americans have used to having lunch when they just hungry. That's why you can find lots of restaurants, fast foods, food to go, and lots of other things...you know what I mean.
I had never seen this before, but you can have one hundred thousand kind of fast food: Mc Donald's of course, Carls Jr., Taco Bell (Mexican food), Burger King, Jack in the Box, KFC, Subway, Domino's Pizza, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, Hardee's, Dairy Queen, and all others...so that's why we can call it a Fast food Nation ! It is amazing to see how many kind of food you can find here. I have the feeling that they always want to eat. And I don't tell you how many advertising you can have on TV about that, and that's all the time : "Hey, come to enjoy the new burger double cheese bacon...", all the time.
There is one thing also unbelievable, this is the way they want to sell you their products, in my opinion they really want suck you up ! I'm sorry for this bad way of speaking, but that's true.
It is also necessary to imagine that here water is more expensive than soda or anything else. Can you believe that ? One liter of Coca-cola for instance is cheaper than one of water...of course, that can depends on some market, but that is the truth.
So you can imagine.
Fortunately they don't eat all the time this (that depends on people
), but for me I will try to find some vegetables, or something else not to become fat or obese. And as I know that California
is one of the fisrt region of the United States in fruit production, I won't miss my chance to taste it !But don't worry about me, I know what I do.

Etant donné que mon stage se poursuit aux Etat-Unis, il me semble alors évident de continuer ce blog avec une partie en anglais, n'est-ce pas ?
First, it's very important to understand the lifestyle in California. In fact, here the life is completly different to others cities of the United States. As it's closed to the beach, and Mexico City frontier, people here are really relaxed and welcoming. When you ask somebody for your way or something else, it will take you hours. You speak all the times with us for hours. Of course that's a manner of speaking, but all for saying people are very welcoming.
They have the sun in the skin, they take their time, they live life to the fullest.
So their way of live is showed on their lifestyle : amazing cars, relaxed clothes, lots of surfing challenge, the way of moving is with uge bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, running with dogs in the hand...so plenty of images that you can have in your head.
This is the typical example of Californian. In order to be clear, here are some pictures I've taken to illustrate this.

Après avoir passé près de 11h30 dans l'avion, une bonne heure à la douane américaine (papiers, passeport, empreintes digitales, "Have you ever been a gangsta ?" et toutes les autres questions invraisemblables qu'ils peuvent vous poser), puis évidem
ment 9h de décalage horraire, me voilà donc arrivé dans cet univers : les Etats-Unis.Seulement voilà, une fois arrivé, il n'y pas que l'horraire qui est en décalage. Je me sens vraiment perdu, je ne sais où donner de la tête : bus, taxis, voitures immenses, buildings gigantesques, dans tous les sens, routes à 6 voies, un million de personnes attendant on ne sait quoi, et tous parlent évidement américain, oui américain...Oh yeah, yeah, yeah !!
Que dois-je faire ? Où dois-je aller ? A qui demander ? Enfin bref, c'est le début des galères ! Mais heureusement, ici en Californie, les gens sont d'une amabilité et d'un "coolisisme" que j'arrive à vite m'en sortir. J'ai alors pris ce qu'on appelle un Shuttle car : c'est un immense taxi transportant plusieurs personnes à la fois. J'ai donc pu arriver à l'hotel en toute tranquillité.
Seulement voilà, je savais que le lendemain, il me fallait trouver l'endroit où j'aller héberger pendant 3 mois. Quelle rue ? Quel bus ? Quel sens ? How much dollars ? Le stress est à son comble.
Puis les choses se font petit à petit et on fini par s'en sortir.Désormais, je profite de mes derniers jours avant de débuter mon stage, dans ce petit coin paisible de Anaheim, près de Huntington Beach, là où mes nuits se passeront pendant ces 3 mois.

Internationalement connu sous le nom de Surf City, Huntington Beach possède huit kilomètres de paysages, avec la plus grande étendue de plage ininterrompue sur la côte Ouest. Le tourisme demeure un élément vital de l'économie, plus de 11 millions de visiteurs viennent durant l'été, le week-end et pour des événements
spéciaux.La ville est dotée d'un des plus importants piliers de loisirs dans le monde: parcs publics, centres équestres, port de plaisance, avec une incroyable préservation de la faune. Le joyau de la récréation est l'immense étendue de belles et spacieuses plages, où la foule se réunie pour regarder des événements sportifs professionnels comme l'US Open de surf, AVP Pro Beach Volleyball ou encore le Surf City USA Marathon.
La qualité de vie à Huntington Beach est renforcée par sa réputation comme étant l'une des dix villes les plus sûres des Etats-Unis (Classement par "ville-crime", et oui, on est au States !!) et de la qualité des services qu'offre la communauté à ses citoyens. Huntington Beach Art Center et Huntington Beach Playhouse permettent de fournir une grande variété de beaux-arts, ainsi qu'un excellent système de bibliothèques et de nombreux musées viennent renforcés ce fondement culturel. Le système éducatif, avec cinq écoles secondaires et 35 écoles élémentaires, est à ce que l'on puisse dire excellent. Huntington Beach est le foyer de Golden West Community College. Située également à une courte distance à l'UC Irvine, Cal State Long Beach et de Cal State Fullerton.
La ville est située à 40 km au sud de Los Angeles. Elle offre un accès facile à Long Beach, NewPort Beach, ou encore Laguna Beach, à l'ensemble du comté d'Orange, ainsi qu'à la frontière Mexicaine en passant par San Diego et Tijuana.
